General

What are ERE certificates?
ERE stands for emissiereductie-eenheid (emission reduction unit). These are certificates that demonstrate how much CO₂ has been saved by using sustainable energy for transport. The system was set up by the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) and launched on 1 January 2026. The underlying legislation (RED III) was adopted by the Dutch Senate on 31 March 2026. The certificates are paid for by oil companies that sell fossil fuels.
Who can apply for ERE certificates?
Anyone with their own charging point and an electric car can participate. Your charging unit must have a certified MID meter built in (a separate meter in the fuse box does not count). Not sure if your charging point qualifies? Check our detailed guide, ask your supplier, or contact us.
Is registration really free?
Yes, registration is completely free. There are no upfront costs. For individuals the commission is 19% (incl. VAT) on earnings. For businesses it is 16% (excl. VAT) plus an annual mandatory audit of € 150 (excl. VAT). You only pay when you actually earn.
Can businesses participate too?
Yes, our services are available for both individuals and businesses. Businesses with multiple charging points can achieve significant earnings. A solar energy system more than doubles the return. Businesses receive a customised quote after registration.
Is the ERE scheme already finalised?
The ERE scheme launched on 1 January 2026 and you can already register. The underlying legislation (implementation of the European RED III directive) was adopted by both the Dutch House of Representatives (October 2025) and the Senate (31 March 2026). The law is now awaiting Royal Assent and publication in the Official Gazette. Registering before May is important because the compensation applies retroactively.
How much can I earn?
As an individual you can expect approximately € 0.12 per kWh charged gross. At an average consumption of 6,000 kWh per year (approximately 30,000 km of driving) that is about € 583,20 per year. The exact earnings depend on the fluctuating market price of ERE certificates. Use our calculator for an estimate based on your situation.

Registration

How do I register?
Go to our registration page and fill in the form with your personal details and information about your charging point. We will then contact you to complete the registration.
What information do I need?
You need your personal details (name, address), information about your charging point (brand, model, and whether it has a MID meter) and your EAN code for your electricity connection.
How long does registration take?
The registration form takes just a few minutes to complete. The official registration with the authorities normally takes 2–4 weeks. We will keep you updated on progress.

Costs & payout

What are the costs?
There are no upfront costs. We work on a commission basis: 19% (incl. VAT) for individuals and 16% (excl. VAT) for businesses on the realised earnings. Businesses also pay an annual mandatory audit of € 150 (excl. VAT).
How often are payouts made?
Payouts are made every quarter. You will receive a breakdown in advance showing the ERE certificates generated, the market price at which they were traded, and the net earnings.
When do I receive my first payout?
Payouts are made every quarter. The timing of your first payout depends on when you register and the quarter in which your charging data is processed. The compensation applies retroactively from 1 January 2026.
What is the contract duration?
The contract runs per calendar year with a one-month notice period. So you are never tied in for long.
How is the payout made?
The earnings are transferred to the bank account number you provided during registration. You will receive a statement in advance showing the generated certificates and the calculation.

Technical

Does it work with every type of charging point?
Not every charging point qualifies. Your charging unit must have a certified MID meter built in. A separate meter in the fuse box does not count. The Zaptec Go 2 is an example of a charging point with a built-in MID meter.
Do I need solar panels or green electricity?
No, solar panels or a green energy contract are not required. Anyone who charges an electric car at home with a suitable charging point (with MID meter) can participate in the ERE system.
How are charging sessions tracked?
Charging sessions are registered via your charging unit or energy meter. We help you set this up so that everything is tracked automatically.
